Force Behind the Lift: Aaron Ferguson
When you think of a company’s IT department, images of socially awkward young men who make fun of those who need help with their computer may come to mind. At Rotary Lift however, that description couldn’t be further from the truth. With technology evolving so rapidly, 2 new models of iPhone have been released since you began reading this blog, means a competent, collaborative and flexible IT department is a must for survival. From trouble shooting multiple brands of hardware and devices, to being experts on all programs under the sun, the IT department really is the digital lifeblood that runs a company.
On the front lines of Information Technology at Rotary is Aaron Ferguson. Aaron is our IT Supervisor and resident “techie.” So let’s take a few minutes to get to know more about the guy who so graciously looks the other way when reviewing our internet browser history.
How long have you been with Rotary Lift?
Aaron: I have been with Rotary since May of 2015. I started working as a Quality Assurance Analyst for Chief Automotive. I tested the Genesis software for bugs before it was released to the public
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Aaron: One of the biggest factors in liking your job is liking the people. We all work hard and do the best we can to make our products top notch, but we don’t forget to have fun. I think that has a factor in making good products. We are lucky to have such great employees.
What is your background in?
Aaron: I went to school for (and work in) Information Technology. I have worked in many different environments in my short career. I started out working at Ivy Tech Community College as a Network/Online Technology Technician, then worked at King’s Daughters’ Hospital as a Help Desk Coordinator and Desktop Technician.
What is one of the biggest challenges to your job?
Aaron: One of the biggest challenges to my job is the constant evolution of IT. We run into problems on a daily basis that we have never seen before, and have to get figured out. Systems, applications, and operating systems are constantly changing so we have to re-learn everything.
During your work career or personal life what are you most proud of?
Aaron: I have a great, supportive family that keeps me in line. I just got married September 24th (which may explain both photos being from my wedding!)
What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?
Aaron: I am a professional river-dancer, and part of my act involves juggling knives and flaming golf clubs. None of that is true, but I do have a good sense of humor.
What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?
Aaron: I play video games, watch movies, and other geeky activities.
Are you a music person or a sports person?
Aaron: Both. My favorite sports team is the Colts, and my favorite band, that’s impossible to choose.
If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be? Why?
Aaron: I actually purchased a VLXS7, but haven’t set it up yet (I’m waiting to buy a house with a nice garage). When I do get it set up, I’m going to use it for general vehicle maintenance (tire rotations, brake maintenance, oil changes, etc.). The size of the lift is perfect for general use situations. The lift is so nice that I fear when I do set it up, family is going to be over a lot using it.
