Force Behind the Lift: Kim Jones
Rosie “The Riveter”, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, Kim “The Woman of Steel” Jones, what do these three have in common? They’re driven, great at their job, and could no doubt beat me in a fist fight. However, there is only one that will ensure your shop or garage gets the very best lift and accessories money can buy. Kim Jones, is one of Rotary Lift’s Cell Coordinators and today we find out a little more about the “Woman of Steel.”
Q:How long have you been with Rotary Lift?
Kim: I have been with Rotary for 18 months now. I still absolutely love it. I’m given a hard time because I am still kind of “giddy” about my job. Everyday I am part of making a piece of equipment that is used in a customer’s business. I need to make sure everything I put out works perfectly and is most importantly, safe.
Q:What do you enjoy about your job?
Kim: Making shipping dates! To be able to coordinate everything just right, so our product gets out on time or ahead of schedule. I love the challenge.
Q: What is one of the biggest challenges to your job?
Kim: The biggest challenge is ensuring everything comes together at the right time. Some parts we make, some we buy, some have a 5 day lead time, others a 20 day. We order, form, weld, paint, assemble, and package parts in my department; we do it all. There is a customer waiting for this part in order to get his job done, and I am not a fan of disappointing people.
Q: During your work career or personal life what are you most proud of?
Kim: My kids, all six of them. I have 2 step sons, Chase and Dakota, who both graduated from Ball State University; Go Cardinals! My oldest son James, is a full time student and in the National Guard. My daughter Katie is a Master of Arms(Navy Police for the civilians) and is stationed in Sasebo, Japan. I don’t get to see her much and miss her like crazy. My son Danial is 17 and just got his first “real job” and loves that check coming in each month. He is really into hunting and would like to be a conservation officer when he is older. My youngest is Dillon, as any 13 year old this day and would be, is into computers. Not just playing games, but looking at them as a career.
My kids are my life. I have tried to instill in them the value of a dollar and to never lose sight of your dreams.
Q: What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?
Kim: I am tactically trained to handle a hostage situation. While I was a corrections Officer for the State, I successfully completed their SERT Academy. I was chosen out of a field of over 300 applicants. Probably the most exciting thing I have ever done.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?
Kim: This summer I discovered I love kayaking. My daughter took me while I was visiting her in Japan. We went kayaking in the ocean, and since then I have been four more times in two months. I also recently bought a Honda Shadow-Phantom. I love to ride.
Q: Are you a music person or a sports person?
Kim: I would say a music person, unless my Wildcats are playing, then its definitely a sports person. #BIGBLUENATION!
Q: If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be? Why?
Kim: I would get an SPO12. It is one of the most versatile lifts we make, it can pick up any vehicle I own. I would put it in my daughters garage so she could change my oil..for life! Did I mention she is a tomboy?
