The Force Behind the Lift – Jared Miller

The Force Behind the Lift – Jared Miller

Have you ever needed someone to build a website from the ground up? A person to edit a photo where it looks like you climbed Everest? Maybe you are looking for a guy who makes his own clothes and uses turtle shells as cereal bowls? Well, do we have the man for you! Jared Miller, Web Design Specialist for Rotary Lift. Jared is a man of many talents to say the least. He is responsible for the design and overall feel of our websites, as well as being our resident Photoshop expert. Let’s take a few minutes to get to know the guy who can design a great-looking mobile website, but can’t view it because he doesn’t have a cell phone.

These guys need a lift.

Q: How long have you been with Rotary Lift?

Jared: I’ve been with Rotary for over one and a half years now. I’ve always been a car guy so joining this team and dealing with a product of this nature is right up my alley. I hope to be here a long time, maybe you can do a force behind the lift revisited edition!

Q: What do you enjoy about your job?

Jared: I enjoy the atmosphere of working with a bunch of unique creatives in the marketing department.  Seriously, it’s awesome working with creative people and we have plenty of those on this team. I enjoy learning as much as I can about our products and the people around them. I like the little details about the company, like how a product is developed from a concept to the final decal that’s placed before shipping.  Pitch-ins with meat products like bacon wrapped cheese balls are also a perk.

Q: What is your work background in?

Jared: They call me a website design specialist, which basically means make websites pretty, not ugly.  I help out with content when needed and come up with off the wall ideas for the site or anything else, for that matter. I have a graphic design background and can turn a wrench, so I landed in a great spot to work. Our online presence will have a bigger impact on the day to day operations of the company in the future once computers take over the world.

Q: What is one thing about working in where you do that people may not know?

Jared: I like working on anything creative and we create as much content as we can for our online viewers. What we’re trying to accomplish is to provide more information online than you would ever anticipate. That way if you’re looking  for an answer, there’s a good chance we’ve provided it somewhere on the site…and a quirky, visually interesting way to get it.

Q: What is one of the biggest challenges to your job?

Biggest challenges? I work with this difficult back end developer named Shaun Runyon, he’s a real piece of work. Seriously, Shaun is a real good guy and fun to work (argue) with. He’s been profiled on the blog so check his page out (Force behind the website). Our biggest challenges are keeping content online fresh, current and relevant to our audience. We’re always struggling to be innovative online while not jumping ahead of our end users’ experience level.

Q: During your work career or personal life, what are are you most proud of?

Jared: This would be a good time to mention I’m most proud of my family!  Hi honey.  I like having a little shadow following me around, as you can tell from the pictures included. I love that boy. I’m  proud that I can provide for them with a career like this and that we’re close to our local community so I don’t have to travel far distances to earn a living. I was once told by an uncle, “if you can live your life without bill collectors calling all the time, it’s a good day”.  I don’t want for much and try to do the best I can with my life, family and job.

Q: What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?

Jared: One fun fact? I can read people’s thoughts. While reading this you can’t help but think about bacon.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?

Jared: My time away from work often involves chores at home, which I like doing. I mentioned that I’m a car guy so I like  going to cruise-ins and car shows. I like working on, and have an affinity for old red Ford trucks (in one picture  my shadow and I are working on my 1956 F-100). We have a little hobby farm with chickens, so I enjoy playing green acres on the weekends. The garden is essential because we try to “put up” as much as we can for winter. Our little guy is a big helper when it comes to making brush piles to burn and gathering firewood.

I’m a DIY guy, so I like looking at things online and trying to replicate, like stacking firewood on pallets and moving them into our garage with a skid loader. There’s a video below of me doing that. Pretty cool! I think the person who invented skid loaders needs more accolades for that achievement! It’s like riding in a robot suit.  What more could you ask for?

Q: Are you a music person or a sports person?

Jared: I’m a car person. Haven’t you been reading? I like music and sports, it should be no surprise that I played an instrument in band, all creative types do, don’t they? Bonus points if you played trombone, too!

Q: If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be? Why?

Jared: I’m actually in the market for a lift, maybe everyone on the interweb can vote for which lift I should purchase. You’ve seen what I have to lift, an old truck or two, a lawn mower, skid loader and some bacon wrapped hors d’oeuvre trays during parties. I do have some ceiling height restrictions but no concrete issues. So I leave it to the online community to vote. Leave some comments on this post about what I should be using; any advice would be appreciated!
